Video: The Source of a Fruitful Life
This past Sunday we kicked off our Fruitful spiritual campaign, and we started with a simple but powerful truth:
A lot of us don’t feel fruitful.
We feel busy.
We feel active.
We’re doing more than ever before.
And yet, deep down, something feels off.
Jesus speaks directly to that in John 15 when He says, “I am the vine, you are the branches… he who abides in Me bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing.”
That one verse explains so much.
The Problem: We Confuse Activity with Fruit
It’s possible to do all the right things—go to church, read your Bible, serve, stay busy—and still feel unfruitful.
Why?
Because fruit isn’t produced by activity.
It’s produced by connection.
The Source of Fruit
Jesus makes it clear:
He is the source. We are not.
A branch has one responsibility—to stay connected to the vine.
Yet so often we do the opposite. We disconnect ourselves and then try to produce fruit on our own. And when it doesn’t work, we try harder.
That’s exhausting.
Because we’re trying to produce something only God can produce.
The Secret of Fruit
Jesus uses one word over and over again in this passage: abide.
It appears again and again for a reason.
To abide means to remain, to stay, to live in Him.
This is the difference between religion and relationship:
- Religion says: Try harder.
- Relationship says: Stay connected.
Too many of us have been taught how to strive—but not how to abide.
And as long as we’re striving, we’re acting like we’re the source.
We’re not.
The Evidence of Fruit
So what is fruit?
Simply put:
Fruit is the evidence of Jesus working in your life.
It shows up in your character.
In your relationships.
In your words and actions.
And here’s the hard truth:
People won’t hear what you believe before they experience how you live.
Two Questions to Consider
As we move forward, here are two questions worth asking:
Am I connected… or just busy?
Am I abiding… or striving?
It’s easy to be like Martha—doing everything for Jesus, but missing time with Him.
Jesus’ invitation is simple:
Not “try harder.”
Not “do more.”
But come closer.
The Bottom Line
If you don’t see fruit in your life, the answer isn’t more effort.
It’s reconnection.
God isn’t calling you to be busy.
He’s calling you to be close.
Because a connected life…
is a fruitful life.
