Over the past several weeks we’ve been talking about what it means to live a fruitful life. This Sunday we stepped back and asked an important question:

Where does spiritual fruit come from?

Psalm 1 compares the godly person to a tree planted by streams of water. Healthy fruit is the natural result of healthy roots. In the same way, a fruitful Christian life grows out of a heart that is deeply rooted in God’s Word and sustained by God’s presence.

We discovered three characteristics of a rooted life:

  • A rooted life is shaped by what you listen to.
  • A rooted life is sustained by the right source.
  • A rooted life produces fruit for others.

Jesus is the perfect fulfillment of Psalm 1. He is the truly righteous Man who delighted in His Father’s will, stood firm under every trial, and bore fruit for the salvation of others. As we abide in Him, our lives become rooted, strengthened, and fruitful as well.

Don’t spend your life chasing fruit. Sink your roots deeper into Christ. A fruitful life always begins with a rooted life.
